Good morning and Happy New Year. I’m the first one up, so have booted up my laptop to do an entry before things get busy. I’ve just updated my StoryGraph for the last of my reading in the old year, though since my 2025 wrap up was generated before I woke up this morning, those final bits of data aren’t reflected in that (though they are counted in the right buckets in other places). Thus I can say my reading year came out about where I thought it would when I wrote about it early in December, though I once again didn’t meet my pages goal, ending with 19517 pages: more than 2024’s 18320 but less than my goal of 20000. When I’m away from home, like I have been since December 22, that throws off my reading routine. Undaunted, I’ve set my 2026 goal at 20000 pages (and 64 books). Will moving throw off my reading routine for some stretches? Probably.
As for other goals, I don’t rightly know. So much is up in the air with not knowing when we’ll sell the condo or where exactly the new house will be or how the transition will work (get a some sort of bridge loan and buy and move before we sell? have the right buyer show up in the next few weeks and have to move into somewhere temporary for a few months?). I definitely am hoping that I can go on in a way I haven’t begun, because my first “meal” of the year has been a 20 ounce bottle of Mountain Dew Zero Baja Blast I picked up yesterday on a whim accompanied by a shortbread cookie I scavenged from the leftover snacks from Christmas. Fun but not going to sustain me for long. Feels like I should at least set a low bar for nutrition, like eat a vegetable every day (inclusive of tomatoes and mushrooms and other technically not but functionally for sure veggies). And definitely should work on moving over to the new laptop I got and have mostly not used much yet (typing this right now on the old one, which still mostly functions okay). But moving has taken up so much of my brain space it feels like adding anything else is too much. So I’ll post this and finish my Baja Blast and maybe see if there’s something else to nibble on while I wait for other folks to roll out of bed and not make any big plans for now.

Happy new year from your fan Billy (my Google account has been disabled including my Gmail, so I have to use a different email address to comment).

Aw Happy New Year to you as well, Billy. Too bad about your Google account … I’d expect that of Instagram but I guess all the big internet companies are just as bad as each other.
