A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 40

October 10, 2026

Monday, September 28: Went to the store and saw an unprecedented supply of what we call “big waters” at our house. We have one of these dispensers that hold 2 and a half gallons at the kitchen sink and one in the primary bathroom, as we’re still on bottled water until we can get a new filtration system in the house, what with some bacteria still left in the water after the new septic system and shocking the well with chlorine.

Grocery store shelves almost filled with rectangular drinking water dispenser.

Tuesday, September 29: Saw a spider making a web outside the bedroom window.

Looking out a wide window down a hill to a pasture and small barn below. There is a round spider weaving a web under the eaves over the window.

Wednesday, September 30: Got a seated tai chi poster to hang by my computer desk to encourage me to move at least a bit more. This one came rolled up and needed clips on the bottom to help flatten it out.

Poster with 20 seated tai chi exercises showing a white woman with white hair in a high bun and wearing light blue tshirt and light grey pants.

Thursday, October 1: Got up early to allow plenty of time to drive to the airport in Seattle to fly to Denver for a craft conference, which meant I got to see some sunrise glow over the hills. On the way down the driveway, I saw what I thought was a bird or a mouse sitting in the driveway, but it turned out to be a tall mushroom which I later learned is called a shaggy mane. I made it to the airport in time though I was glad I’d allowed extra time as traffic was traffic-y. As it turned out, the plane left late but it was direct (a benefit of being near a more major airport than Spokane) so at least I wasn’t worried about my connection. The bathroom in the plane had a window, which I don’t think I’ve seen before. I came into the concourse that has a walking path to the main terminal so a) I didn’t have to crowd onto the train and b) I got to see exhibits on the Owl Club of Denver and contemporary indigenous art (Lines of Continuance ). One of these trips, I’ll figure out how to access this walkway from the terminal to the concourse. (Spoiler alert: it was not this trip.) I got checked into my hotel and found there was a burger and custard place right across the street, so that’s where I had dinner.

Tall white mushroom with frills peeling up from the sides.

Friday, October 2: My conference didn’t start until the afternoon, so I took a drive to see fall colors. I had to pull over and snap a picture of these aspens glowing such a bright yellow against the blue sky.

Dirt road lined with aspens with yellow leaves.

Saturday, October 3: There was a mall behind my hotel that I’d gone to to pick up some snacks; happened upon a foreign foods store where I got myself some special treats like this peach flavored zero sugar Pepsi. It was interesting but not something I’m sad we don’t have here in the US. I drank it to pep myself up for a full day of classes and socializing (this conference provides breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday so there’s more socializing opportunities than usual for conferences).

My hand holding a mostly black can of Pepsi zero sugar with peach flavor.

Sunday, October 4: I got a bit overwhelmed with the crowded classes and the challenging audio environment (just a curtain between the classrooms rather than a wall) so took a walk around the neighborhood, which I was glad I did. There were some cute historical houses and I found out they have purple (and green and black) waste totes in Denver (envious of the purple ones … I have grey and blue at home). I had dinner at a place that had both Detroit style pizza and Chicago thin crust tavern style so that was a hard decision (I went Chicago and took the leftovers to the conference after party).

One story painted brick house; cream with grey and soft orange and yellow trim
