A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 38
September 29, 2026
Monday, September 14: Greeted at the grocery store by a display of “personal watermelons”, some of which looked suspiciously like non-watermelons.
Tuesday, September 15: With the help of one of the nephews and his dad, I went to get a curved bar that was made for this house. It’s been sitting in storage for at least a decade, maybe more, and is the answer to the question of what to do with one of the awkward spaces off the living room. Needs cleanup and some repair, of course. The original owner of the house also threw in a rustic table for the barn for the price we’d agreed on for the bar.
Wednesday, September 16: Did a first pass of cleaning and polishing the bar, noticing that it looks like it once had more shelves on the back side. I wonder if we’ll miss them enough to build new ones. Also wonder if I’ll learn to make cocktails now that I have a bar. I did make margaritas back in the late 80s, so I guess I have experience. Not sure we kept the margarita glasses during this last move, though.
Thursday, September 17: Got a tiny bit excited when I rounded a corner and saw a Halloween makeup display, but as far as I could tell the only new thing was the display part, not the colors. There used to be lots of new nail polish released for Halloween but now all that seems to show up is displays like this that repackage old colors. I don’t need any more nail polish, of course, so I guess it’s good that there isn’t as much new stuff to tempt me.
Friday, September 18: Fall hues continue to show up. The cloud berry bushes near the house are looking interesting, with somewhat muted and speckled colors.
Saturday, September 19: Took a walk up the trail behind the house for the first time in a while. The blackberries had grown out over the path in so many places, but since I expected that, I had a snippers with me so cut them back. Didn’t get all the way up so will have to do that at some point.
Sunday, September 20: Had a friend visiting from Spokane and since it was a beautiful day, we drove up to Mount Baker to see what we could see. First we saw a whole lot of cars but found a place to park and once we got to the trails, they weren’t as crowded and the views were great.
