A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 35

September 4, 2026

Monday, August 24: Roof work got started. The crew brought their own port-a-potty (and a microwave, too, as I discovered when I saw it sitting near the front porch the next morning).

Grey plastic port-a-potty on a small trailer on a lawn with a house in the background showing some old shingles, some scraped roof, many bundles of new shingles staged on the roof.

Tuesday, August 25: Because the dump truck was now outside the bathroom window, in the interest of discretion I decided to shower after the roofers left on this day.

Tan tiled shower with bottles on the window sills and a small truck just on the other side of the windows.

Wednesday, August 26: Remember a couple weeks ago when I was sad about losing a sock? Well, it turned up when I was packing for a weekend in Spokane, mixed in with some clothes I had put away and not looked at since I did the loads of laundry from my previous trip. A small good thing which made my day brighter.

Two white no show socks with grey soles and orange accents, including grippy spots on the soles, sitting on a turquoise flight bag.

Thursday, August 27: Drove to my friend’s house near Spokane. Their dog was sad it wasn’t ball time.

Golden retriever sitting in a kitchen, looking sadly over one shoulder. A blue ball sits on the floor nearby.

Friday, August 28: Spent a good part of the day in the storage studio, packing up some things that were still loose on shelves, pulling stuff to load into the car to take to the new house. There was some smoke in the air from forest fires but not so much that I couldn’t open the windows while I worked. I took a break for lunch at the Mennonite store nearby. Resisted buying a coffee mug, at least this time.

Ceramic mugs lined up on a windowsill.

Saturday, August 29: Hung out with friends in Spokane most of the day. Stopped between events to take a picture of an old school I’ve driven by many times. Sad to see such a classic building in such disrepair.

Two story brick school, backlit at twilight. Windows are broken out or boarded up. The chain link fence around the property is falling down in spots.

Sunday, August 30: Another day mostly spent in the studio, doing more packing and then loaded the car for the trip home. Definitely making progress but I fear there’s still more than a truckload of stuff in there and only a handful of months to get it cleared out.
