A Week in Photos: 2025, Part 52a

January 5, 2026

Wrapping up last year with a few more photos.

Monday, December 29: More house hunting, with a visit to a property that’s not quite what I envisioned this next step for us would involve but which we very much liked. A bit concerned that some of that like on my part is due to the animals I met there; they’d taken their dogs away for the showing but left the lizards and goats and chickens and turkeys and horse (just the one horse). Then since all the other holiday visitors besides us had left, Kathy and Kent were able to join us to tour a rare weekday open house, this one at an 1890 home next door to a church that had been converted to living space. There had been many updates to that one but it still had a lot of the old character. I appreciated it, but the stairs made it a hard pass, as the depth of the treads was noticeably shorter than the length of my foot. Up was okay; down was scary.

Tuesday, December 30: Went to three more houses, one of which was a 70s throwback but not in a good way (sparkly popcorn ceilings) and another that had what I can only describe as big prepper energy (walk-in gun safe) and a third that I could see myself living in but I wonder how much of that feeling was due to the very adorable cows that live next door to it (fuzzy highland cows). Was interesting to be touring around with just a hoodie, even seeing a few flowers blooming, when at our current home we’d be wearing winter coats.

Wednesday, December 31: Two more properties to view before taking off for the rest of New Year’s Eve. I got to pet the neighbor’s horse at the first one, and there were chickens, too. There was also some flooding remaining in the front yard from the atmospheric river earlier in the month. At the second one, the apartment in the shop building felt way better than the house. Went for conveyer belt sushi after the showings; like the décor by the front door there.

Wall decorated with round woven straw mats in shades of blue and yellow.
