A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 28

July 22, 2026

Monday, July 6: The fact that I now live in the land of dinosaurs at gas stations (one on the way to the freeway and one on the way to stores I frequent and one more along a major road I sometimes take to a favorite restaurant) has not dimmed my enjoyment at seeing them on road trips, like this one in South Dakota, who had her own tipi.

Tuesday, July 7: Another day, another dino, this one in Wyoming, decorated with summer stickers and wearing a patriotic cowboy hat.

Wednesday, July 8: Got a bit off our usual path in Missoula and had lunch at a golf course and it was quite good.

Thursday, July 9: Arrived at the storage unit and assessed the situation. Overwhelmed.

Storage unit filled with a jumble of stuff: boxes, furniture, random pieces of cardboard, etc..

Friday, July 10: Picked up a 26-foot rental truck and drove it directly to the storage unit and started loading it, with bulky furniture being the first priority. Mr. Karen had built and tested a sled we could use to slide boxes down the extension ladder so we wouldn’t have to carry them down the stairs. Without out, it would have taken us a lot longer and used way more energy.

Saturday, July 11: A full work day of loading the truck. Definitely seeing progress, with rugs visible that I haven’t seen in months.

Storage unit still filled with a jumble of things, but fewer of them, with the floor visible where it was not before.

Sunday, July 12: Last day of loading the truck, which looked like it had lots of room but that quickly got taken up with the pieces of the sectional sofa. We finished up in time to drive about an hour past Spokane before stopping for the night, making our journey home the next day a little shorter.

Back of a rental truck open to show boxes and furniture loaded about 2/3 of the way full.
