A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 18

May 4, 2026

Monday, April 27: Drove back home from Spokane with another carload of boxes and stuff. Strong winds messed with my gas mileage, so I had to stop earlier than planned to fill up. In consultation with the website that shows gas prices by exit along major highways, I stopped at a new to me place that was quite nice except for the locked bathrooms (there was a code, but that’s a hassle). I got a snack and tried on a hat that now that I’m looking at the picture, think maybe I should have bought.

Me, a sixtysomething white lady wearing rose gold wire framed glasses, slate blue v-neck t-shirt, and a slightly floppy navy and tan woven straw hat.

Tuesday, April 28: Some hosta plants are coming up in front of the house (or the back of the house depending on how you look at it), the ones closest to the building first.

Hosta leaves emerging from the dirt and starting to unfurl.

Wednesday, April 29: Twilight glow over the mountains. Note two septic tank mounds are complete in the former turkey/chicken pen.

View from a high point with pasture down below and forested land behind that and mountains in the distance.

Thursday, April 30: There are multiple rhododendron bushes in the yard. This one at the side of the house is the leader in number of blooms at the moment.

Friday, May 1: The previous owners of the house left behind a set of four molds that make big round ice cubes. It’s been fun to play with them in different glasses. In this case, they way the ice sphere fit in the glass, I had air below and beverage above until the sphere melted enough to make space.

Saturday, May 2: Drained the hot tub as we don’t plan to use it soon and took a walk down to the creek at the bottom of our property.

Low water creek with thick vegetation on both banks.

Sunday, May 3: Another thing that’s different about our new yard is the abundance of slugs. This is the largest one I’ve seen so far, spotted on the driveway when I was walking back up from the barn.

My feet, clad in grey trail running shoes, with a brown and black slug a few inches in front of my toes.
