Monday, April 13: Many folks my age downsize when they move to have less maintenance and less yard work. Mr. Karen and I have done the opposite, and thus welcomed a new member of the family, a bright pretty blue riding mower.
Tuesday, April 14: Big day: work started on the new septic system.
Wednesday, April 15: Work continued on the septic next to the trees in bloom next to the former turkey enclosure.
Thursday, April 16: Helped Mr. Karen clean up the slope behind the house (I held the rope that kept him from tumbling down the hill into the blackberry brambles. Among the various items of trash, he found several balls and these dog toys. In the evening, I drove south to meet up with a friend from Spokane who was in one of of the Seattle suburbs for a work thing. We went out for conveyor belt sushi and hung out after; I spent the night in the spare bed in the hotel room (luxury that the employer pays for an employee to have their own room).
Friday, April 17: It was a beautiful day so I took a detour on the way home to take a peek at Deception Pass.
Saturday, April 18: Another beautiful day when the mountains were out, which Mr. K and I began by getting the riding mower out of the mud patch it was stuck in. We’ll learn where the boggy spots are over time.
Sunday, April 19: Went out to dinner to celebrate a family birthday, one of the plus sides of moving here. I had a fancy gin-based cocktail with elderflower and rose and egg white and a sugar snap pea on top.
