Ooops, I didn’t do an entry yesterday for Holidailies. I thought about it, at least twice, but not at times I wasn’t about to do something else that took priority, like meeting with the real estate guy or sitting down for dinner with the family remaining after some have had to leave over the past couple of days to go back to work and other obligations. I could have, maybe should have, put a reminder in my calendar app, but I did not and here we are, having failed at the daily part of Holidailies. And that’s okay.
Now that I’m here at my laptop, it’s time to indulge in something of a Holidailies tradition of the past few years, weeding out browser tabs on my phone. I have three browser apps installed for reasons. I use Google/Chrome the most, so that’s where I collect the most open tabs. As of this moment, there are 299 of them. That’s a lot, even for me.
The most recent handful I can close out easily as they haven’t been with me as long and I haven’t developed a relationship with them: search results trying to identify the building in some slides we were looking at of a trip Mr. K’s parents took to Taiwan and China in the 1980s (could I have used image search and had better results? probably, but often—though less often now that it’s enshittified—the right words get me what I want from a text search), the confirmation for last night’s dinner order of crepes both sweet and savory that Mr. K and his sister went to pick up, list of houses in the area on Zillow with filters that I didn’t set all that tight so there are properties on it that aren’t appropriate for our wants/needs (including an entire apartment building), recipe for black bean pumpkin soup because I liked the version Kathy made for dinner one night and want to try making some after we get home (bookmarking that before I close it; maybe next year I’ll do an entry about weeding out my bookmarks), page about the tv show Hell on Wheels which our nephews called “Train Trouble” (maybe “Train Troubles”?) when they watched it back in the day.
Now that I’m on a roll, it’s easier to let go of older tabs, too. I can always look things up again if I need to. For the ones I have open to remind me to do something, putting that in my calendar is more effective, as I’ll get a notification (which yes, I may ignore, but no system is perfect). So what I just did was close all open tabs (gasp!) and will soon find out which ones I miss (probably just the couple I use because I don’t want to install the apps for those sites because I have too many apps as well).
