I updated my book log last night so this seems like a good time to review where I’m at with my reading goals for this year and decide which I’m going to try to achieve and which are not going to happen.
I’m looking good for both of my overall goals: 63 books and 20 thousand pages. I’m at 61 books now, which StoryGraph tells me means I’m ahead of schedule by 3 books, and 18,384 pages (behind by 24 pages, which isn’t big at all considering at some points it’s been in the hundreds).
As for the more specific challenges I joined that are ending when the year ends, those aren’t looking so great. I’m at 50% in both the TBR challenge (wanted to get to some of the books that have been languishing on my Kindle) and the StoryGraph genre challenge (intended to get out of my comfort zone, which I did some so that’s something). Those aren’t going to get done. For the paper books challenge, I’m at 75%; I’d need to read three books for that before the end of the year and that seems unlikely. I should finish the remaining time-based challenge I joined, for non fiction; only need one book to wrap that up, and I’ve started reading it.
While I’m a bit bummed about the challenges I won’t complete, I still think joining them meant I read some things I might otherwise have not gotten to, and that’s a good thing. And who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself and spend a lot of time reading for those challenges while we’re on Christmas vacation at the end of the month. It could happen.
