Today was the day I’ve been looking forward to in this young ski season: we got enough new snow for the resort to open some more terrain. Below you can see the difference out our back window; two days ago the baby tree was a recognizable tree shape, while today it’s almost completely covered.
The downside to more terrain is that having the opportunity to do longer runs in deeper snow made it clear to me how far from being in ski shape I am, physically and mentally. I had a mini meltdown after following Mr. K into what he considered an avenue through some trees; I felt it was more of a narrow slot and wasn’t enjoying trying to get down it. I really didn’t enjoy it when I missed a turn and ended up in a group of small trees and got stuck for a while (of course, as tends to happen, I did this after Mr. K was out of sight; he came back down the run to look for me but I’d gotten so far off into the trees that he couldn’t see me). Where I was, I could be seen from the adjacent run, on which a guy stopped to ask if I was okay and if I needed help. I said I was and I didn’t and would prefer he not stand around watching me extricating myself. And he left. Cool. I was worried he’d stay there and tell me everything I was doing wrong to get back up on my skis. He did come back down the same run again to check that I had actually gotten out of my predicament, which I appreciated; we had a short but nice chat.
We’re supposed to get more snow overnight and tomorrow, so I’ll get a chance to tire myself out even more.
