One of the surprising turns in cleaning out my mom’s house was finding her wedding dress in the basement. I had no idea that she still had that; I thought it had slipped away at some point as so many things did (including the quilt I made for mom, which I hadn’t seen in years and never came across in all the sorting out of her possessions since she died). I’m guessing it was at my grandmother’s house in Milwaukee for the decades between the wedding in 1951 and when my grandma moved in with Mom in the 90s, because otherwise I think I would have run across it in one of the moves my family made when my brother and I were kids.
My mom made this dress (and her bridesmaids’ dresses). It’s yards and yards of white velvet.
I kept the dress. It’s yellowed some over the years, and I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it, but I couldn’t jettison it as I did with so many things I found.

My parents also married in 1951. My mom borrowed a gown and veil. The veil looked a lot like your mom’s.
