Ah, December, when I turn to my poor neglected online journal and become a posting fool for a month, thanks to Holidailies. This time, it’s been more than two months since I last wrote an entry here. I was away from home for over six weeks of that time, and I’ve never been good at posting from the road (except in December, and sometimes not even then). As for the weeks I was home and still not writing here, well, all I can say is that retirement has proven to be surprising from a time management perspective. I’d expected to be spending more of my days on creative stuff by this point, nearly two and a half years after my last day of work, but that hasn’t happened. For instance, my quilting supplies are all still in the boxes I packed them up into during the summer of 2015 to get ready to sell our Michigan house, which we eventually did in spring of 2016. We drove those boxes out here to Idaho at the end of July of that year, and ever since they’ve been sitting in the storage/studio space we rented in town. Of course, just after we unloaded that truck, I got word my mom had died, so that took priority and has meant a lot of travel back to Illinois to deal with the estate. That big project is winding down now; the house sold on October 30th, and yesterday I wrote a check to the lawyer for what he says is his final bill, so I’m getting there. Maybe next year is the year I’ll finally get back to quilting. Maybe I’ll even incorporate some of the fabric I kept from my mom’s stash when my brother and I were cleaning out her house. Maybe. What I know for sure is this month I’m going to do my best to write here every day and also read some posts from other folks who are doing the same on their neglected (and non-neglected) journals and blogs.
