January 9, 2014
I just today finished updating my book log with the things I read during the last six weeks of last year. I’d set a goal at the beginning of the year to read 100 books, which seemed reasonable given the 70-something I read the year before. Unlike in 2012, when I did A to Z challenges for both titles and authors, in 2013 I just read whatever caught my eye, and a fair few of the titles that caught my eye were erotic novellas, which makes me feel like my total of 106 books read for 2013 is not as solid as it could be. The erotica counts, no question, it’s just the short length of some of the works that makes me feel like I cheated somehow. I did read a lot of longer books, too, so I guess maybe it all evens out, and it’s not like these numbers get audited or certified or anything. I decided to stick with 100 as my goal for 2014; I thought about bumping it up, but I can always overachieve if I decide 100 is too low later on in the year.
