Monday, August 17: Found a moth on the screen in one of the bedrooms when I was going around opening windows, so scooped it up and put it outside. Did this actually help the moth? I’m not sure, but I felt better about things than if I’d left it trapped inside or squished it.

 
Tuesday, August 18: One of the people I met last weekend when I went on my socializing overnight trip pointed out a plant he called “pineapple chamomile” and said it deterred mosquitos and if I had some in my yard I shouldn’t kill it. For some reason that snippet of conventioneer stuck with me, so I looked around the next time I was wandering the property and actually found some. Apparently it can be used for tea and other consumable products, at least according to one foraging website. And the mosquito repellent thing is a true thing, too (though I hesistate to trust the usda.gov website fully given who’s in charge now).

 
Wednesday, August 19: When the sunset is this colorful, it has to be the photo of the day. As the summer wanes, the sun is moving and I have to position myself differently to be able to see it between the trees.

 
Thursday, August 20: With the plums being on the way out, I’ve turned my attention to the apple trees. There are three colors, and none of them seem to be quite ripe yet. These yellow ones seem the closest to being ready to eat.

 
Friday, August 21: Big day: the materials for our new roof were delivered, and Mr. Karen and I went to see the Cubs play Seattle with Kathy and Kent (and the game was followed by a fireworks show in the venue). Unfortunately the Cubs lost, but it was a competitive game so that helped.

 
Saturday, August 22: One of the last looks at the old shingles (which were originally green but have mostly faded to grey tones).

 
Sunday, August 23: There was a wasp nest up under the eaves that had to be removed before the roofing folks come. This was the structure inside. (I was glad that it seemed the wasps had mostly abandoned that nest by the time we sprayed it with the killing chemicals. I hope they found a new home in the woods nearby.)
