A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 5

February 2, 2026

Monday, January 26: The place in town that does the Idaho version Detroit-style pizza changed their pans, so now instead of the long skinny rectangles that were unlike any Detroit-style I’d had in the Detroit metro area, there are two sizes of rectangles with a more authentic aspect ratio.

Rectangular pizza cut into 8 pieces, sitting on a wire rack in a metal pan. Toppings are several kinds of cheese and pepperoni.

Tuesday, January 27: Came home from a trip to the city late enough that the groomers (meaning grooming machines and the folks who drive them, not the other meaning we’re hearing so much about lately, often hurled as an insult when it’s not appropriate) were working on the ski runs. Won’t be too many more times I’ll get to see this view from the driveway.

Ski mountain at night, with a small village at the base and the white glow of a couple of grooming machines working the runs.

Wednesday, January 28: Catching up on things we’d recorded on the DVR, came across a show that was lost to snow piling up in the satellite dish. It did make for some interesting abstract art on the screen.

LG television screen with pixellated picture due to satellite dish signal being messed up by snow in the dish. Band of olive green along the bottom with spots of bright colors above.

Thursday, January 29: Starting to move stuff to the garage so it’s ready to be packed into the moving pod when it arrives. Thus the king size mattress rested in the living room while Mr. Karen and I took a break between wrangling it down the stairs from the bedroom and wrangling it down the stairs to the garage.

Large mattress wrapped in a clear plastic bag and secured with two blue webbing straps, laying on a multicolored shag area rug.

Friday, January 30: This day’s getting ready to move task was getting all the furniture out of the bunk room at the very top of the condo, which involved moving the heavy wooden ladder stairs out of the way so Mr. K could lower each piece of furniture down to me via rope. We hadn’t planned to take all the furniture with us, as most places on the mountain sell at least partially furnished, but our buyers have inherited furniture they want to use, so out it all goes, including stuff that’s been in the condo through both the previous owners and us.

White metal cabinet suspended by a rope emerging through an opening in the ceiling of a wood paneled area.

Saturday, January 31: Taking a moment in the Lowe’s parking lot to admire the sunset before I went inside to buy yet more boxes as we’re running low again and still have many things to pack.

Sunset sky with stores and vehicles in a parking lot in the foreground.

Sunday, February 1: Swatched these sheer nail polishes on paper to see which I wanted to use to freshen up my silver pedicure. Disappointed at how much paler the colors are out of the bottle. I did two coats over the silver on my toes and can’t really tell the difference other than the shine.

Five bottles of brightly colored sheer nail polish: orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. They're lined up on the back of a white envelope on which small swatches of color have been painted.
