Monday, August 18: On my way to the airport to head home from my trip, I had enough time to stop by a favorite shoe store in Detroit. Driving there, I noticed the Mammoth (The Saving Place) building was being torn down. It had been closed long before I started going to the shoe store up the street but it looked interesting and seeing it being demolished made me a little sad. I hope whatever goes in there next is an asset to the community.
I made it to the airport in plenty of time, only to have a delay on my flight out which consumed most of my almost two-hour layover in Minneapolis. I arrived in Spokane around midnight. Heard, then saw, an owl near where I’d parked my car, and a moose along the mountain road when I finally approached home after two hours of driving.
Tuesday, August 19: Slept in after my very late arrival the night before, then hung around the house and relaxed some more.
Wednesday, August 20: Managed to run out of my two mouthwashes (one is for night, one for day) at around the same time. It’s the little things.
Thursday, August 21: Had dinner with a friend. They agreed to go to the one place I know of locally that does a Detroit style pizza. I’d had the real thing twice during my recent visit to Michigan. This is a decent rendition crust and sauce-wise, but the aspect ratio isn’t right (the rectangle is too long and skinny).
Friday, August 22: Rode the lift up with Mr. Karen, the view somewhat shrouded in haze/smoke. We picked a few huckleberries up there for immediate consumption. Since our freezer is full, no point in picking more than that.
Saturday, August 23: Sat outside on the stairs at the side of the house on a beautiful summer afternoon.
Sunday, August 24: Had unpacked enough so all the dirty clothes were out of my suitcase, so caught up on laundry mostly. Took a walk with Mr. Karen after dark; we discovered several traffic cones in the street, protecting freshly painted utility access covers.
2008: Dishcloths (I never made either of the cardigans I made dishcloth swatches for. Maybe I still will; my prime cardigan years are probably still ahead of me, though how many more knitting years I have is uncertain, especially if I’m going to do DK weight cotton.)
2003 through 2007: No entries
2002: Holiday Weekend (ah, the footnote reminded me that Diarist awards were a thing back in the day)
