A Week in Photos: 2025, Part 32

August 21, 2025

Monday, August 4: I appreciate that my grocery store leaves notes like this. Not a cyber attack affecting stock this time, but an equipment failure.

Note printed on letter size paper taped to a grocery shelf holding yogurts and similar products stating there is a product disruption due to a breakdown of the truck that delivers from Seattle area.

Tuesday, August 5: Made a birthday cake with two flavors. In a dinosaur pan because why not.

Cake cooling in a pan on a wire rack on a mellow harvest gold counter. The left half of the cake (the bottom of the dinosaur) is chocolate; the right is yellow.

Wednesday, August 6: Drove down to the city for my ladies’ group meeting. Went to Costco beforehand and another store after to take advantage of being down there. Snapped this picture at a random red light; one of those photos that in the moment seems less compelling than it will years from now when I want to remember the flow of regular life back in the day.

Looking out windshield sitting at a red light at a city intersection. Older red brick buildings abound; two tall old power plant towers on the right side of the street along with a 76 gas station on the corner

Thursday, August 7: Sometimes I learn things from my coloring app. This week they chose to include Bolivia Independence Day (August 6th) on the Holidays tab. There was only one image given, and because I like to color in pairs, I went looking for more. The app doesn’t always label the images in the Places tab with where they are, so I did an internet image search for Bolivian buildings, which led to me finding out about a style called New Andean, pioneered by architect Freddy Mamani. The app actually had two examples of it, which I didn’t find in time to color on the day but that’s okay.

Friday, August 8: Normally I wouldn’t use Happy Color screenshots to represent my days twice in a row, but these wonky feet just were too odd to pass up. Was AI involved? I hope not. I prefer human error.

Saturday, August 9: Spent some time in my friend’s studio in Spokane. It’s coming together; a portable AC unit that one friend set up sitting on a table provided by a different friend keeps it from getting beastly hot on these overly warm summer days. We’ll have to see what winter brings … there are no radiators in the space or any other sign of heating. There’s a reason the rent is cheap.

White portable AC unit with an oblong hose snaking up to a window sits on a table with purple legs. Black folding chairs flank the table on either side.

Sunday, August 10: A nice relaxing day, starting with making huckleberry pancakes for breakfast and finishing with a sunset walk through the neighborhood with Mr. Karen before returning to warm huckleberry pie that I’d made earlier.
