I skied today for the first time in over a week. I didn’t realize it had been quite that long. It’s been a very slow start to the season for both me and the mountain. On this same day last year, I posted about skiing on the back side of the mountain; this year, barely anything is open on the front side. I did all my skiing today on the same run, as conditions anywhere off of that are iffy, with twigs and small trees and even a creek or two disrupting the snow. The rain event last week really set things back. It’s been cold again, and they’re making snow again, so another lift is scheduled to open tomorrow, but that’s just accessing the beginner terrain. It might be a while yet before more challenging slopes are ready. It’s not great, seeing bootprints in dirty ice in the village thanks to the thaw and freeze. Still, I enjoyed the time I spent out there today, feeling a better flow (though I still have a lot of room for improvement), and the views are still good even when the snow cover is not.
