I spent most of my Saturday at the office, but for fun rather than work. Our company quilting group hosted a surprise 50th birthday party for one of our members. She was really surprised, in part because her actual birthday isn’t until July (we figured if we did it now, she wouldn’t suspect anything). She’s involved with a lot of charity projects, so as our main gift, we sewed pillowcases to be donated to the cause of her choice. Because there was so much socializing to be done, food to be eaten, babies to be held, toddlers to be amused by, and a puppy to cuddle, I didn’t get started on my pillowcases until a several hours after I arrived. No worries, though—since I had pillowcase sewing experience, and I’d printed out the directions I’d written up years ago, they went together quickly once I did get going, which meant I had time to do more socializing and eating before I left (some of the ladies stayed even later and worked on some of our group quilt projects, but I hadn’t been able to spend much time with Mr. Karen lately so I bailed on that part of the day).
