A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 31

August 11, 2026

Monday, July 27: Drove home from Spokane. Before I left town, I checked a store for something I hadn’t been able to find at home, which took me by this interesting water tower. So nice that they added some visual interest to what could have been just a plain reservoir tank.

Wide cylindrical water tank painted dark green with golden yellow vertical fins evenly spaced around the sides.

Tuesday, July 28: Had blackberries picked on our property on my cereal for breakfast, did stuff around the house, and enjoyed another beautiful sunset from the deck.

Sunset with sky of blues, oranges, and lilacs with pine and other trees silhouetted in the foreground.

Wednesday, July 29: We have a birthday coming up in the family, so seemed time to release the first balloon to drift around the new house.

Double height living room viewed from balcony on 2nd floor. A clear round balloon with Happy Birthday printed on it is drifting in front of the upper windows.

Thursday, July 30: In what feels like a significant milestone, Mr. Karen and I got to the point of starting to set up what will become a sitting/reading room in what was a bedroom. The rug from our former living room fit quite nicely (the curled edge needed to be weighed down to flatten after months of being rolled up) in the space, and the loveseat will work there as well (not sure where it will be in the room yet since the vision is still coming together).

Room with cream walls and light laminate floor mostly covered in a bright shag area rug with a grey loveseat sitting on it at one end

Friday, July 31: Fairly busy day of running errands, having dinner at a new to us Salvadoran restaurant (they were out of chicken, so we’ll have to go back and try that sometimes), and of course, more unpacking and arranging stuff.

Dinner plate with whole fried fish decorated with lemon slices, white rice, refried beans, and lettuce/tomato/onion/beet salad

Saturday, August 1: Mr. Karen alerted me that the hummingbird was back, so I hustled over to try and capture it on camera. Which I did, sort of, getting this blurry image of it flying rather than dipping its beak into the blossoms. Still, better than no picture.

Looking out a window. Hosta plants in bloom at the bottom of the window with a small brown bird in mid air, wings spread above the leaves.

Sunday, August 2: Even when the sunset is quiet, the color is still pretty behind the mountains.

Sunset orange glow behind a distant range of mountains with dark forest in the foreground
