Monday, March 2: First morning waking up the new house was greeted with a glaze of frost on the fields around the barn. That melted away as the sun rose higher in the sky and the mountains came out to be seen, which seemed like a good omen. Had a busy day following up on our missing garbage and recycling bins (they’d been dropped off in the wrong place; didn’t realize until we’d bought the place that our street has a another non-contiguous section about three miles away and that confuses some GPS systems, and I found our bins at the end of that other section and ended up just shuttling them back to our house in the back of my car, which took two trips as these things are big), getting a certified letter from the county from the post office (it was warning us about the septic system, which we did know about before we bought the place and are working to get upgraded so it will pass muster with the county), picking up our new internet equipment and getting the wifi setup, and going to a couple stores in between all that to get needed supplies like pizza and a lamp for the bedside table (we didn’t have bedside tables in the condo as the primary bedroom was too small).
Tuesday, March 3: Kept working on tasks like unloading the rest of the boxes I’d brought back from Idaho. Made another run to the store, where I saw these unsettling dolls. I guess they’re dolls? Or mutant stuffed animals? The teeth are really throwing me.
Wednesday, March 4: Rainy day on which I ran a couple errands (there’s a Daiso store only about 15 minutes away from my house, which is a great improvement from 8 hours away as it was when I was in Idaho) but mostly stayed inside and folded laundry and enjoyed my wifi (couldn’t figure out how to connect the tv to it yet but that’ll come). The rain cleared before sunset so I got to enjoy more of that evening colors view.
Thursday, March 5: Decided to head back to my former stomping grounds to get another carload of stuff and see some more of my friends, as being all alone in the big house was too quiet even for me, so I took my leave of the late 90s fabulousness like the built in stereo system (no longer operational because now we have the internet when we want to listen to jazz or rock or relax playlists).
Friday, March 6: Spent the whole day in the storage space, choosing what to take back with me this time and moving things around to make the space slightly less chaotic, which was the best I could do to get the space ready for the insurance inspection the landlord emailed to say would be happening in the coming week. I was glad I wasn’t an 8 hour drive away when I got that email, as I also needed to get a propane tank and an (empty) gas can out of there. At some point, I think we’ll need to rent a truck, because emptying this space carload by carload is goinig to take longer than I have left on the lease.
Saturday, March 7: Went to a restaurant in Spokane which I’d never been to before so I got to see this fish mural I’d never seen before.
Sunday, March 8: Had lunch with a friend before heading back up to load up for the drive home (I hadn’t wanted to do it on Friday because more than one of my friends has had stuff stolen out of their cars in the city and I didn’t want to tempt fate). My route took me past the highway in the sky that doesn’t connect to anything yet and hasn’t as long as I’ve known it was there.
