A Week in Photos: 2026, Part 7

February 18, 2026

Monday, February 9: Mr. K and I had a late lunch at a favorite restaurant in town on a sunny afternoon.

Restaurant with light wood tables and blue plastic chairs with wooden legs. The sun coming in the window is making a shadow on the wall of the neon open sign above the door. A mural with Welcome to Lebanon covers part of the wall.

Tuesday, February 10: Helped Mr. K bring the big ladder up from the garage so he could take down the sun decoration on the fireplace wall.

Two story stone wall with a brightly painted metal sun art piece hanging high up it. A weathered metal extension ladder is being put into place to access the wire the sun is hanging from.

Wednesday, February 11: Had my oral surgery in the morning: two teeth extracted and some work done on the sinus above where they’d been. It took two assistants and the dentist to get the IV in ahead of the procedure, and I roused enough for a short time during the surgery to hear some of their conversation, but overall it went well. I spent the rest of the day at home, resting with breaks to eat soft cold foods (a lot of pudding was involved) and icing my cheek to keep the swelling down.

Me, a sixty something white woman wearing rose gold wire rimmed glasses, wearing an olive shirt with a sage green fuzzy blanket pulled up on my torso.

Thursday, February 12: Another day of resting and soft cool foods. Despite the icing the previous day, swelling was such that I could only manage half a smile, the other side of my face being too puffy to allow much movement.

Me again, wearing the same glasses as the previous day's photo and smiling with just one half of my mouth.

Friday, February 13: Still a lot of resting, but was feeling up to packing a couple boxes. Because of the sinus repair, I was instructed to not lift anything over five pounds for two weeks after the surgery, which means once I’ve packed a box and taped it shut, I have to have Mr. K move it for me, which is less than ideal, but so would waiting to get my mouth fixed until we were settled in the new house and I found a new dentist and hoping the recurring infections wouldn’t eat away even more of my bone.

Small heavy duty cardboard box from Lowe's sitting on a white coverlet with a roll of tape and a Sharpie marker next to it.

Saturday, February 14: Woke up to fresh snow on Valentine’s Day. I’ll miss this view out the back windows. Surgery recovery continued, with a bruise showing up from cheek to chin as the swelling recedes some.

Trees and bushes covered in snow.

Sunday, February 15: Was upstairs and heard fireworks … forgot that the mountain shoots them off on this holiday weekend. Made my way downstairs and out into the street to watch with Mr. K, who’d heard them from where he was working in the garage. In the dark, no one could see my still swollen and now bruised face.

Large white fireworks burst over a ski resort with a small village at the base.
