Monday, May 12: Mr. K and I continued our drive home via a route we don’t travel very often, heading west from Kansas through Denver, Colorado before turning north on a non-interstate highway that took us through Winter Park and into Wyoming, where we stopped for the night in Rock Springs and it became clear that taking two inflated Mickey Mouse balloons over a high mountain pass was not the best for them (they didn’t pop but they were noticeably less full of air than they had been). Spring was just starting to show in most places, with a few areas of yellow and green growth popping up on the landscapes.
Tuesday, May 13: Checked out of our undergoing renovations hotel (hallways with only carpet padding in them, wires hanging out of the wall in the entryway, front desk tucked away down a long hallway, etc.) and continued driving. Stopped for dinner (and a bit of looking at architecture) in Dillon, Montana and for the night in Missoula.
Wednesday, May 14: Left Missoula, which is only about four hours from home if we’d been going to drive straight there, but we first had to go all the way to the west side of Spokane to pickup my car at the airport before backtracking, and that added enough time that we weren’t feeling up for doing it the night before and getting home in the wee hours. Instead we took our time and arrived back on our mountain when it was still light out. The balloons weren’t as perky as we’d hoped (see high mountain pass from a couple days ago), but they still got to float and fly once their ribbons were trimmed/weighted appropriately.
Thursday, May 15: Catching up on stuff at home and watching the snow melt (well, more listening to, as the rush of water in the little creeks is a hallmark of this time of year around here).
Friday, May 16: Spokane is the Lilac City, so it seemed right to snap a picture of these blooms I came across when walking to check out a space a friend was thinking of renting for her studio.
Saturday, May 17: Time to re-blue my hair; this is the before shot.
Sunday, May 18: Went out to visit my new-ish friend who lives on the mini-farm. Said hello to their goats this time.
