Mr. Karen gets a lot more days off during the holidays than I do, but it’s pretty much impossible for me to feel sorry for myself when he uses some of his extra time at home to do things like this: he built me a swift. Actually, he built two, because by the time the first one was done he’d figured out a better plan. I’d showed him this entry about a Tinkertoy swift some time back; I’m not sure how much he referred to it when working out his designs, though I am pretty sure I’m the only person who has Casper the Friendly Ghost supervising from the top of her swift, and very sure that the fact he knew I’d get a kick out of Casper is a good sign that we’re really meant to be together.
I’ve wound two balls of sock yarn using it already, and it’s so much easier than the non-swift-aided approach I’d been using so far. Knowing I didn’t have to spend forty or fifty or sixty bucks of my crafting budget to experience this makes it all the sweeter; now I can spend that money on getting more yarn to wind.
