Book!Ravenclaw

April 25, 2007

Rather than cast on the second sock, I made this beanie for Charmed Knits Knit-along. It’s KnitPicks Swish superwash wool in Dark Navy and Copper from my stash. I chose to do this style rather than the beret for variety’s sake, and I pretty much followed the pattern as written, just fudging a bit on when to start the decreases so the stripe pattern would work out in a reasonable manner. I’m happy that I seem to be getting the hang of the jogless jog; this picture is of the side where I changed colors and I can barely tell where I did it.

Unlike the other beanies I’ve done, this one has paired decreases, which I’ve never done before. I’m not sure I did them right. I decreased the correct number of stitches in the proper rounds, but the end result looks a little odd to me, like maybe I slipped knitwise when I should have slipped purlwise or something. I did go back and change the first couple sets–ooh, there’s some fun, dropping several stitches down a few rows on purpose and then using a crochet hook to pick them back up and do decreases at the same time–and they looked better but I’m still not 100% happy. I’ll have to experiment some more. I think I might do the trapped bar version next time I try this pattern, since then I won’t have to decrease and change colors at the same time.
