Yesterday Mr. Karen and I took a walk through a windstorm that was doing its best to remove the rest of the leaves from the trees. Some of them, like the brilliant gold ones on this gorgeous maple, were holding on tenaciously. Good for them.
The wind did not manage to blow the ugly side of fall off my patio–it’s a dull brown world out there. I do not care for leaves that do not even make the effort to turn a pretty color before falling on the ground and needing to be raked or swept up. At least those dark brown pods provide some entertainment; I’ll sometimes see squirrels pick them up and work diligently to extract the seeds within.
